SUMMARY OF SPECIFICATIONS:
The Department of Geosciences at Colorado State University intends to purchase a TerraSpec Halo infrared mineral analyser as a sole source procurement. A Visible Near-Infra Red (VNIR) field spectrometer is to be purchased through the Ed Warner Economic Geology endowment fund that supports the named professorship position held by Dr John Ridley. This is equipment that will enhance research and teaching in Economic Geology in the Department of Geosciences and more generally in the Department of Geosciences. This equipment and accompanying software allow on-site identification and quantification of multiple minerals in hand specimen during field work and in the laboratory. The equipment will allow new directions of research to be developed in the Department, especially in Economic Geology, and will enhance learning of geology in upper-level undergraduate classes in the major which involve field work (Field Methods, Summer Geology Field Course).
